The Vivekanada Memorial Hospital

It’s not quite like Seattle Grace but in India, they get the job done here. They mean business when they serve more than 40 thousand patients a year with such a small staff. Something like this at home wouldn’t have the balls to start and organization of this size with the efficiency, human consideration, and compassion that SVYM has. Just saying…

Living here and working here is a little overwhelming for the simple reason that there is practically nothing to do. There are no McDreamys or McSteamys to be found here. Only nurses, the ill, and the staff I work with during the day. Oh and also Kumar, the wonderful person who feeds us and makes sure we don’t end up malnourished.

Living here is almost surreal. I think it’s the only time in my life where I’ll ever be this disconnected from technology (for the most part) and have this much down time to think, read, do yoga and stare at the wall. And I must admit, my tolerance for the insect kind has gotten better. Now I just flinch at people’s hands who sneak over my desk to get my empty cup of tea thinking it’s a rodent…whoops.

Also, I know all this text without pictures can be a bit much, I don’t know if I’d even have the patience to read all of this without intermittent forms of visual entertainment but I PROMISE pics of Sargur will be taken and posted soon!

Plus wedding pics after Sunday. But not my wedding. That wont be for at least until I come back home. And then a few years.

  1. Chelsea, you are correct...here in the US, we just don't have the heart to run such an amazing facility and perhaps that is why the universe has guided you to India! How wonderful to be engulfed in life, without the burden of technology! Enjoy "just being"! When you get home, the rat race is still about "just becoming".... om shanti Chelsea!

  2. Hi Chelsea,
Got the Fathers Day greeting..Thanks! We saw Paw Paw, and along the way ended up in a Chinese herb shoppe. We saw gecko's selling for $10 per piece.please be sure to unzip your luggage and let Ra-cool and his family emigrate to New York. We could start a colony here and make lots of $$.
