Indian Wedding

I hate to say it but the wedding was a tad anticlimactic. We only spent 4 hours there since some of the people we came with had to make their buses back to their villages (in the Indian sense). The turnout was pretty damn huge though. This is only ¼ of the people Id say were there:

The wedding was in a huge catering hall in a town nearby. Unlike the weddings in Northern India, Southern ones have a lot more rituals and prayers in their ceremony. Granted, this was only one of the 7 days that comprise a “wedding” so we might have just ended up with the traditional card. Granted, there was still a film crew and 2 television screens to show those with the nosebleed seats what was going it.

What a production! There were also more outfit changes than I can remember 2 DJs, and the guy photoshopping and editing the film to play on the screens during outfit change breaks. Nonetheless, I was given food until I thought I would explode and if we hadn’t left before dinner, Im sure I would have.

This was my lunch. Before that, we had breakfast that was probably about the same size. Breakfast that was only an hour and a half before given all this. SO MUCH FOOD. And in India its blasphemy to waste. You just don’t do it. So in one day I gained 10 pounds. Thank god Im still in my 20s and have yet to really need to worry about my figure, plus yoga helps.

All in all, the wedding was a nice intro into the hoopla that we think of as India weddings. I plan on getting invited to at least one more from my second internship. Or I might just decide to crash, either way, Im making it happen.
